George N. Gillett Jr.

Team Owner

George N. Gillett, Jr. is the founder and chairman of Booth Creek Management Corp., a company formed to oversee acquisitions and management of the Gillett Family interests in a variety of businesses: the Montreal Canadiens Hockey Club and the Bell Centre; Gillett Entertainment Group; Grand Targhee Ski and Summer Resort in Wyoming; Booth Creek Ski Holdings, Inc., the owner and operator of six ski resorts in the United States, and several golf courses.

The Gillett family also have business interests in the fresh and processed protein products; Swift and Company, the second largest protein supplier in the world, Snowball Foods and Kings Delight, a value added processors of a broad line of turkey and chicken products, and BC Natural Foods, the leading producer and supplier of a full line of natural and organic protein products.

Mr. Gillett serves as chairman and director of most of the companies listed above, as well as Great Northern Bark and Sierra Organics, a landscape and garden products industry; Northland Fuel, a fuel oil transportation and distribution business based in Alaska, and retail automotive dealerships in Colorado. He is also a director of Vail Banks Inc., and is a member of the Board of Governors of the National Hockey League.

George Gillett's community service commitments include a position of director and member of the Executive Committee of the Vail Valley Foundation and of the Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine Foundation. He is a past Chairman of the Board of the Denver Grand Prix Foundation, a member of the Leadership Council of the United States Olympic Committee and was director of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association for 17 years until 2003. George is a judge for Ernst & Young's 2004 Entrepreneur of the Year Competition in the Media and Entertainment Division. He was recently selected as an Honorary Member of the 2004-05 Canadian Alpine Ski Team.

Mr. Gillett attended Amherst College in Amherst, Massachussets, and graduated from Dominican College in Racine, Wisconsin in 1961. His first job following college was with Crown Zellerbach in sales. Gillett's career continued in the 1960s in marketing and management consulting, initially with McKinsey & Co. A sports enthusiast since childhood, by the mid 60s, he was business manager and minority partner of the Miami Dolphins. A year later, he became owner and CEO of the Harlem Globetrotters, and later started Globetrotter Communications, a national radio group.

George N. Gillett Jr. was born in Racine, Wisconsin on October 22, 1938. Mr. Gillett and his spouse, Rose, live in Vail, Colorado, and have four sons: George III, Alexander, Andrew and Foster.
