TERRY MOSHER, OC.

AISLIN is the name of Terry Mosher's elder daughter, and the nom de plume that he has used for over thirty years as the editorial page cartoonist for The Gazette in Montreal. Mosher is also the cartoon editor of Maclean's, Canada's national magazine, where he illustrates Paul Wells' back-page column. Another part of his mandate at the magazine is to increase the national profile of other aspiring Canadian cartoonists.

Born in Ottawa, Mosher attended fourteen different schools in Montreal, Toronto and Quebec City, graduating from Quebec City's École des Beaux-arts in 1967. He then began working for The Montreal Star, moving over to The Gazette in 1972.

Mosher has produced thirty-seven books, either collections of his own works or books that he has illustrated. His latest collection, published in the fall of 2004, is entitled OH, OH!. In 1979 Mosher also published a book with journalist Peter Desbarats entitled THE HECKLERS, a history of political cartooning in Canada.

The recipient of two National Newspaper Awards and five individual prizes from The International Salon of Caricature, in May of 2003, Terry Mosher was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Mosher is a member of the board of directors of The Old Brewery Mission, Montreal's largest homeless shelter.

In 2003, The National Film Board of Canada produced a film on Chapleau and Aislin entitled Y'à RIEN DE SACRÉ ... /NOTHING SACRED. Indeed, the relationship between the two cartoonists has been well documented. In 1995, Montreal's McCord Museum hosted a large exhibition of caricatures by both Aislin and Chapleau, and both cartoonists were well pleased to have such a retrospective given that neither of them were dead yet.
