Yvon CHAREST, F.S.A., F.C.I.A.
President and Chief Executive Officer

Born in 1956, Yvon Charest obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science from
Laval University in 1979. Shortly thereafter, he embarked on his career at Industrial where, for several years, he held various positions in the actuarial, administration and corporate affairs sectors. In 1981, he was accepted as a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (F.C.I.A.) and of the Society of Actuaries (F.S.A.).
After the merger creating Industrial Alliance in 1987, his responsibilities quickly led him to become Vice-President, Corporate Affairs, first at the parent company in 1988, and then one year later at National Life, a subsidiary acquired in 1988.
In September 1990, Mr. Charest returned to the parent company, where he became Vice-President, Development and Training, in the Marketing Department. Eighteen months later, he was appointed Vice-President, Actuarial Services. In this capacity, he was named actuary responsible for valuation, a responsibility he would hold until 1996.
From 1992 to 1996, he served as Vice-President and General Manager, Actuarial and Control. He was then entrusted with financial monitoring of life and health insurance subsidiaries and coordination of the Group’s three-year plan (1996-1998).
In August 1996, Mr. Charest became Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Industrial Alliance. In spring 1999, he was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer. He held his position until May 2000, when he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer.
Within the Industrial Alliance Group, Mr. Charest serves on the Boards of Directors of
Industrial Alliance Pacific Insurance and Financial Services, and Industrial Alliance Auto and Home Insurance. He is also a member of the Board of MD Life.
Mr. Charest serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) and acted as president for the 2006-2007 period.
Mr. Charest is also very active among humanitarian organizations in the region. He was co-president of the 2000 United Way campaign in Quebec and has sat on the board of directors of the Fondation des Hôpitaux Enfant-Jésus – Saint-Sacrement since 1999 where he has been president of the recent financing campaign. Since 2006, he is in charge of the Laval University fundraising campaign.
Yvon Charest is married and the father of three children.
