Annette Verschuren is President, The Home Depot Canada & Asia. She
joined the company in
1996 and has overseen the rapid expansion, and subsequent market
leadership of The Home
Depot Canada. Ms. Verschuren was chosen to head The Home Depot’s Asian
October 2006, overseeing the company’s expansion into China.
Ms. Verschuren began her career as a development officer with the Cape Breton Development Corporation, a coal mining crown corporation in Sydney, Nova Scotia. She went on to work with Canada Development Investment Corporation as Executive Vice President, privatizing various crown corporations. She next joined Imasco Ltd. as Vice President of Corporate Development. In the years immediately prior to joining The Home Depot, Ms. Verschuren was President & Coowner of Michaels of Canada, a chain of arts & crafts stores.
Ms. Verschuren was recently appointed to the North American Competitiveness Council by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. She serves as the Vice Chair of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives and is on the Board of Directors for both Liberty Mutual Group and the Conference Board of Canada. In 2007, she was recognized as Communicator of the Year by the International Association of Business Communicators, Toronto chapter. She was chosen by Wilfrid Laurier University as the Outstanding Business Leader for 2006 and in 2005 the Retail Council of Canada declared her the Distinguished Canadian Retailer of the Year.
A native of Nova Scotia, Ms. Verschuren holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier University. She has been honoured with doctorates from both Mount Saint Vincent University and St. Francis Xavier University.
A passionate advocate for volunteerism and community involvement, Ms. Verschuren is also Chancellor of Cape Breton University, Chair of Habitat for Humanity’s National President’s Council and is Co-Chair of Volunteer Canada’s Corporate Council on Volunteering. She also donates her time to campaigns benefiting the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
